Sampdoria have admitted that Fiorentina ace Giampaolo Pazzini is the kind of striker that they are looking for in January.
The former Under-21 international is set to quit the Tuscan club in the New Year and Doria are seemingly keen on adding him to their squad.
“We have a few problems in our attacking department,” stated sporting director Beppe Marotta. “But it isn’t easy to find the right kind of player in January.
“Saying that, Pazzini does have the characteristics of the player we require, but it’ll all be down to Fiorentina.
“If it will be possible to sign him with the funds we have available to us then we will get him, otherwise we’ll have to look elsewhere.”
Samp’s top scorers in Serie A so far this term are Claudio Bellucci with four and the talented Antonio Cassano, a fantasista with five strikes to his name.
“It’s our intention to keep hold of Cassano,” Marotta added when asked about the enigma. “But his future will ultimately depend on him.”
Meanwhile, Samp are expected to loan defender Jonathan Bottinelli to an Argentine side next month for family reasons.
