>The current football club was officially founded in 2002, but Fiorentina are actually among the historic greats of Italian football, with two championships to their name. A couple of years ago financial disasters forced the team to reinvent itself and submit to relegation to Serie C1. Fiorentina returned to Serie A in 2004 after a dramatic re-ascent of the tables and a change of name (briefly playing as Florentia Viola). After Fiorentina - and their notorious fans - made their big re-entry into the top flight of Italian football, they proceeded to enjoy a rather rocky season, but after avoiding relegation they began the 2005-2006 season with a victory and plenty of optimism.

3?>On arrival, visit the Tourist Information Office opposite the station, where you can pick up a free town plan and a vital piece of equipment - a list of museum opening times and prices. Some museums and galleries are open only in the morning, others may close one or two days a week, so you really need to plan your sightseeing if you want to get the most from your trip. It's also worth visiting the ATAF bus station alongside the railway station to pick up a free bus map and a couple of tickets.

Visit one of the Medici villas, explore the hills and vineyards by bus or car, or see another town - <st1:City w:st="on"><st1:place w:st="on"><u1:City u2:st="on"><u1:place u2:st="on">Siena</st1:place></st1:City></u1:place></u1:City> or San Gimignano, for example.
